Pan Africa is Green!

It has green friendly features. The roof is angled to the north, and with a row of large windows along its edge, it allows in the slanting winter sun to warm the interior, while in summer the higher sun doesn’t enter the interior. This means that no air-conditioning is used in the centre court. The windows also allow in plenty of natural light. The taxi rank also receives lots of natural light.

ALEXANDRA TOWNSHIP

Alexandra Township is steeped in history. The development of the township dates back to 1905.

The Township was the only place where black people could buy and own land but this was abolished in the 1930’s when J.B Hertzog became Prime Minister. The township was administered by a health Committee until 1960 when it was brought under direct government control.

lexandra or Alex for short is located on the banks of the Jukskei River and nestled between the upmarket suburbs of Sandton and Lombardy East. The township has a large number of informal houses or shacks, it is estimated that there are more than 20 000 shacks in Alex.

The township has been home to a number of notable people such as former President Nelson Mandela, Hugh Masekela, Alfred Nzo, Irvan Khoza and many more. Today the population of Alexandra is estimated at over 500 000, however the infrastructure was designed for a population of about 70 000 residents.

Pan Africa Mall is located in the township and is conjoined with the Alexandra Taxi Rank. The mall was officially opened in the 2009 and provides the community with a first world shopping environment. Pick n Pay, Edcon and Foschini Group as well as other fashion retailers, internet cafes can all be found in the mall.
